WORK IN PROGRESS. THIS DRAFT IS FOR PREVIEW ONLY.

Preamble

Welcome to submit your work to Fake Journal (hereinafter referred to as "Fake", "we", "us", or "our"). Please read these Submission Guidelines carefully before making any submission. By submitting a work, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the entirety of these Submission Guidelines.

1. Definitions

  • "You": Refers to any natural person, team leader, or other entity possessing the requisite legal capacity and authority to submit a work to Fake. Where a submission has multiple authors, the corresponding author shall be deemed authorized to act on behalf of all authors for purposes of submission, communication, and authorization.
  • "We": Refers to Fake Journal and its operator(s), editorial board, authorized personnel, successor entities, or any organization that lawfully assumes the relevant rights and obligations.
  • "Work": Refers to any article, image, dataset, chart, audiovisual material, attachment, supplementary material, or other content submitted by you to Fake.

2. Nature of the Journal

  • Fake is a non-profit initiative.
  • At present, Fake does not charge publication fees, review fees, submission fees, or any similar charges, nor does it pay authors any honoraria, royalties, reprint fees, or other compensation. We reserve the right to modify our operating model in the future. Any such changes will be announced separately and shall apply only to submissions made after the effective date of such changes.
  • Fake may not currently operate through a separate legal entity. We reserve the right to establish, replace, or modify the operating entity in the future. Regardless of any change in our legal status or identity, all legal relationships arising from your submission, including but not limited to rights, obligations, licenses, representations, and liabilities, shall, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, automatically transfer to the successor entity.
  • Any change to our legal identity or operating entity will be announced through appropriate channels, including but not limited to our official website, submission system, or public notices.

3. Basic Submission Requirements

  • Your Work should possess satirical, parodic, artistic, or humorous qualities and be intended primarily for entertainment, commentary, criticism, or creative expression.
  • You represent and warrant that the Work is your original creation, or that you have obtained all necessary rights, permissions, and authorizations for any material incorporated into the Work.
  • You acknowledge and agree that fictional, fabricated, manipulated, exaggerated, absurd, or intentionally misleading data, methodologies, analyses, and conclusions may form part of the Work where such elements are reasonably presented as satire, parody, artistic expression, or humorous commentary.
  • However, the Work must not:
    • misrepresent real individuals, organizations, or events in a manner that is unlawful or defamatory;
    • infringe any copyright, trademark, patent, privacy right, publicity right, or other lawful right or interest of any third party;
    • create any harmful belief or horror/panic for a reader when they fails to identify the parody nature of the Work;
    • violate any applicable law or regulation.
  • Authors are encouraged to employ fictional evidence, manipulated datasets, improbable methodologies, circular reasoning, absurd inferences, and other satirical devices in service of the Work's creative or comedic objectives.
  • You shall ensure that all submission information relating to the submitting author, correspondence details, and administrative publication records is accurate and complete, except where pseudonyms and non-given elected names are expressly permitted by the journal's policies.
  • If the Work incorporates third-party content, including images, datasets, software code, audiovisual materials, or similar materials, you remain solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable licenses, permissions, and usage requirements.
  • We reserve the right to reject any submission at our sole discretion and generally have no obligation to provide reasons for such rejection.

4. Review and Editorial Process

  • We reserve the right to conduct formal, substantive, technical, or other reviews and processing as deemed necessary.
  • Provided that the core expression of the Work is not materially altered, we may make necessary editorial modifications, including but not limited to:
    • correction of typographical or grammatical errors;
    • formatting adjustments;
    • modification of titles;
    • optimization of abstracts, keywords, or layout;
    • technical modifications necessary to accommodate publication platforms.
  • As a general principle, we will communicate with the corresponding author regarding any modification that may materially affect the Work's substantive content, viewpoints, or conclusions.
  • We make no representation or warranty regarding review timelines, publication schedules, or eventual publication outcomes.
  • We reserve the right to decline publication at any stage, including after the Work has entered review, editing, or scheduling processes.

5. Intellectual Property and License Grant

  • Unless expressly agreed otherwise, copyright in the Work shall remain vested in you.
  • Upon submission, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to:
    • store, reproduce, edit, format, display, and disseminate the Work;
    • publish the Work in print, electronic, online, database, mirror, archival, or other forms;
    • use the Work for purposes of search, indexing, recommendation, citation, scholarly dissemination, or long-term preservation;
    • reasonably quote, display, or otherwise use portions of the Work in connection with the promotion of Fake Journal.
  • The foregoing license shall remain effective until the Work is withdrawn. If the Work has already been publicly published, we may continue to maintain necessary public archives and historical records for the purposes of preserving publication records, citation integrity, and archival continuity.
  • Except as otherwise provided by law or agreed between the parties, you remain free to publish, republish, distribute, or license the Work to third parties.

6. Withdrawal and Removal

  • You may request withdrawal of the Work prior to its formal publication.
  • Following publication, we reserve the right to retract, remove, delist, or append risk notices to a Work where:
    • academic misconduct is identified;
    • a rights dispute arises;
    • required by applicable laws or regulations;
    • a material error exists;
    • we otherwise determine that corrective action is necessary.
  • If your submission results in any third-party claim, complaint, demand, legal action, or proceeding, you shall bear sole responsibility therefor. To the extent we suffer any loss, damage, liability, or expense as a result, you shall indemnify us in accordance with applicable law.

7. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

  • We do not warrant that:
    • any submission will be accepted for publication;
    • our services will remain uninterrupted;
    • our websites, systems, or data will be completely secure;
    • the Work will not be delayed, lost, corrupted, or damaged due to technical causes.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any issue arising from force majeure events, technical failures, cyberattacks, policy changes, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
  • To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our aggregate liability arising from or relating to any submission shall not exceed the actual direct economic benefit received by us from that submission. As Fake is currently operated on a non-profit basis and charges no fees, such liability cap will ordinarily be zero.

8. Personal Information and Public Information

  • We may collect and retain information provided during the submission process, including names, contact information, institutional affiliations, and submission records.
  • Such information will be used solely for purposes reasonably related to journal operations, peer review, publication, archiving, and administrative management.
  • Once a Work is publicly published, author attribution, abstracts, keywords, and other publication-related information may be indexed, archived, and retained by search engines, databases, and third parties for an extended or indefinite period.

9. Amendments to These Guidelines

  • We reserve the right to amend, revise, or update these Submission Guidelines at any time.
  • Updated versions shall be published through appropriate channels. Unless otherwise stated, amendments shall become effective upon publication.
  • As a general principle, submissions shall be governed by the version of these Guidelines in effect at the time of submission. However, revised provisions relating to changes in operating entities, data retention, archival maintenance, security management, and other continuing matters may apply to existing submissions to the extent reasonably necessary.

10. Miscellaneous

  • Section headings are provided solely for convenience and shall not affect the interpretation of these Guidelines.
  • If any provision of these Guidelines is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
  • The interpretation and application of these Guidelines shall be governed by applicable law.
  • If you have any questions regarding these Submission Guidelines, you may contact us through Fake's official communication channels.
